Every question is generated by code from a family checked against official material — past papers, official item descriptors, the exam’s own framework, marked scripts — and marked by code. The one thing an AI reads is the writing piece, to score it on the official rubric.

The real thing
Four screens from the live site, made for the sample student.
The Australian Mathematics Competition, sat in August. Middle Primary for Years 3–4, Upper Primary for Years 5–6: three difficulty bands, figure questions and the real answer formats, where the award is decided in the hard final third.
Sat in April or May of Year 4. The school publishes no paper, so this trains what every Year 3–5 assessment tests — numeracy, spelling, grammar and punctuation, reading, thinking skills, reasoning and writing — pitched at the NAPLAN top band and the Year 4 scholarship papers.
Sat online in August: Paper B in Year 4, C in Year 5, D in Year 6. Choose the subject inside it — Mathematics and English, Science, or Digital Technologies — each with its own free diagnostic, ramping to the final third that decides Distinction and High Distinction.
Sat online in March. Numeracy, reading, spelling, and grammar and punctuation as papers, built from the official item-by-item descriptors, plus a weekly writing piece marked on the official rubric — trained to the top proficiency level, Exceeding.
One method — find the missing skill, teach it, prove it on a fresh question, fit the work to your week — and each subject opens only when every one of its answers has been verified. Want the email the day one opens? Write to wcandy@candyandfrank.com with your child's year and the subject.
No child is average. So we never teach to one.
Mastery is what counts — and it has to be shown: a skill is held only when your child answers a fresh question on it unaided, and again a week later. That is our promise.

The whole diagnostic — no paywall at the results.
Every miss explained — one step at a time, with a sketch.
A fresh question to prove it — same skill, new numbers, unaided.
Yes. Every question comes from a family modelled on a real question of that year's paper and is checked against the official answer before your child sees it. ICAS Science and Digital Technologies follow the tasks the official ICAS framework sets for each paper, with every answer computed by code from what the question shows. Years 3–4 sit AMC Middle Primary, Years 5–6 Upper Primary; the Melbourne Grammar track is for Year 4, when the school tests.
How is this different from ChatGPT or a general AI app?
A chatbot predicts the next word and can be confidently wrong. Here every question, answer and explanation was built and verified by code before it reached the page, and marking is code comparing answers. The one exception is the weekly writing piece on the Melbourne Grammar track: an AI marker scores it on the official NAPLAN writing scale, calibrated on official marked scripts. It scores; it never chats and never writes for your child.
Can my child do the test on screen?
Yes — on a tablet or laptop, with a timer and a scratch-paper drawer — or print it and type the answers in afterwards. The real competition allows a calculator in Middle and Upper Primary, and so do we.
Can you guarantee results?
It depends on how much it is used. A child who does the weekly papers and the explanations sees the gaps close, one skill at a time, and every results page shows the evidence: which skill was missing, and whether a fresh question on it was then solved unaided.
Where do the questions come from?
Not from an AI guessing at a syllabus. Every question family is modelled on a real past-paper question — AMC, NAPLAN, ICAS — and checked against the official answer before your child sees it. The NAPLAN families are tiered by the national percentage of children who got the original right. ICAS Science and Digital Technologies are built from the official ICAS framework's tasks instead, every answer computed by code from what the question shows. Nothing from a past paper is reproduced; every question is a fresh variation.
Is this only for Melbourne?
No. NAPLAN, ICAS and the AMC are sat in every state, the papers are the same everywhere, and everything here is online. The one program tied to a city is the Melbourne Grammar entry test.
Can we stop whenever we like?
Yes. Cancel on your child's page at any time: nothing more is charged, and the plan stays open to the end of the month or year already paid. Cancel during the free trial and nothing is charged at all.

Alvin told me this platform works better than the tutoring class he went to and the practice books I bought, because it keeps asking him the questions he can't do, and after a few rounds he really can do them. With the other tutoring classes and practice books, nobody asked again about what he couldn't do, so he forgot it quickly.

Thank you, and thank you to Alvin for keeping at it. Asking again, with a fresh question each time, until a skill really sticks is exactly why we built this. — Candy
